Becoming an Enrolled agent

Post by VaniB »

Does anyone know if a Canadian citizen can become an enrolled agent with IRS?

I am contemplating this route compared to CPA route since this is more tax specialized. Any input in this subject matter is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

You will need a PTIN, if you don't already have one. The requirements to become an Enrolled Agent then are pretty straightforward.

I'm not sure how a Canadian person would get a PTIN, since the first requirement is to have a Social Security Number, but this article implies it can be done:

I am an Enrolled Agent practicing in Canada, but I am also a US citizen.
