Correct. There is no *may* about the ability to claim the US tax on the 401(k) as a credit. You WILL be able to use it as a foreign tax credit.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
