Help for Other Information Section - 1040NR

Post by WiseGuy »

Hello!

Am filling in the section entitled - Other Information on the last page of the 1040NR for the first time.

I left the US in 2005 (was working on TN) and came back for a couple of days vacation in 2006.

When I do a 1040NR for 2006 is the Other Information section filled in from the perspective of the TN period in 2005 or the B2 stint in 2006?

In particular, I was unsure of Questions A-G from page 5 of the 1040NR, which asked the purpose for visit, type of entry visa, current nonimmigrant status and date of change, and date entered US.

Thanks,

Peter

may I ask why you would be filing a 1040NR for 2006?

You fill out 1040NR questions as they retain to 2006. You went to US as a tourist, say so.

The days of presence in previous years are all days, regardless of status. They just want to know if you are allowed to file 1040NR -- you are.

Don't forget the 10% IRA penalty (line 55), which is not creditable on your Cdn tax return.
