Sure. Turbootax or Taxact can be used. With 8833 you have to do paper return (can't efile). If they miss a form or two (like 8621) you can download from IRS.

I always submit my return electronically. (In fact mine has already been accepted by IRS). If I have anything that needs to be added that would have forced me to paper file, I simply wait for the return to be processed, and THEN send a 1040X with whatever needed paperwork. This has always worked for me.

I ended up trying taxact and it seems to be MUCH better than TurboTax for my situation (5W2s for 5 different states), much simpler and really made a difference on my refund vs owed taxes. I think TurboTax did not understand I wasn't a resident in ANY of the states I actually worked. So thanks Nirvana for the tip.

I loved the solution of filing electronically and THEN sending the extra forms with the copy of the 1040. I thought I'd have to do the opposite but your way is smarter Nelson because it keeps it all together and makes it clearer to whomever goes thru it.

Thank you SO much for your tips!!!

You do not send a copy of the 1040. You send a 1040X along with the "missing" information.

DO NOT RESEND THE 1040.

Thank you Nelsona, I had indeed misunderstood your advice. In the end of the day the IRS rejected my electronic filing under error that my spouse's birthday was incorrect (which was not) so I'm paper filing.

I hope it all goes well, I couldn't have done it without your help and the myriad of information in this forum, so I thank you again :)

My tax software is adding stimulus payments. Am I even eligible for that ?

It should not be adding them to the 1040NR. Your fake 1040 is only used to calcualte tax rate, ignore stimulus in dtermining that (it is later on the 1040 than you need anyways).
