First time filing tax for both Canada and US.

Post by 12345678TD »

I became Canadian PR last year, currently live in the US. I believe I am obliged to pay tax under PR status. This is my first time filing for both. Have no idea where to start... anyone who can provide me some directions?

Thanks so much!

Until you establish Cdn residential ties, like a home you live in, etc -- and have no Cdn income. You are not yet Cdn resident and have no need to file Cdn tax return. This is unlike the IRS which requires US PRs to file regardless of where they live.
