family overseas

Post by newperson09 »

if my wife + kids live overseas, will I earn more here in USA?
Will I get credit for them? Or, my tax rate becomes single tax credit?
Can we still file tax together?

PS. My wife is china citizen, one kid is canadian, the other is US citizen.

thanks

Your filing status in US will never be Single, since you are married.

It will either be "Married filing separately" or, if you elect to have your spouse join you and report world income, "Married filing jointly".

If your family lives in Canada, they can be included as exemptions on your return. Your children should qualify for the CVhild tax credit or the Additional child tax credit.

They will all need a IRS ID number, if they do not have a social security number, to make such a claim.
