No W2 or Taxes withheld.

Post by FX004 »

I work for a Canadian employer, but spent 221 days working in Michigan last year. My corporation did not withhold any taxes, or subsequently supply me with a W2. Am I required to have a W2? Can my Canadian employer even provide me with a W2?

Thanks.

Not sure this answers your question but employers in Canada to not issue W2's they issue something similar called T4's.

You will not get a W2, as this is for US payors.

You need to report the income on a 1040NR (assuming you are still a Cdn tax resident), and on a Michigan return, and pay them what you owe.

Then you will get credit for that tax on your CDn return.

In essence, you vastluy overpaid Canada and province, and underpaid US and Michigan.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
