Cdn Citizen returning to Canada, potentially for only 1 Yr

Post by kmac »

CDN Citizen, but have been a resident of the US for last 3yrs. My employer moved me back to Canada for potentially only one year. I only have a couple of US stocks which overall are all winners with a US broker. No 401k or IRA.

Question is, anyone know of a US broker who is licensed in Canada? As my move may only be for one tax year, I don't want to transfer to Canada and then back again if possible. However; I do not want to simply hold my account I would like to be able to trade, and as I gather most US brokers cannot deal with Canadian residents. So is there any that can?

Thanks in advance!

JCGA's info is not correct.

TD waterhouse (Canada) will deal with US resident's RRSPs, not non-retirement brokerage accounts.

Try mcquarie or pacifica.

When I said TD Waterhouse I meant the online brokerage firm owned by TD Bank for expatriates based in Europe that allows full online brokerage services 24/7 known as Internaxx a TD Bank division, here you can hold both US and CND non registered accounts. You open and maintain the accounts on-line I have a couple of clients using it so far no problems to report.

Yes, but this is NOT for Cdn or US residents. Any firm can hold US or Cdn securities, but they are not licensed to trade for Cdn or US residents.
