income from contract work

Post by readtheform »

I am USC, Canada resident. I did contract work as a consultant for a US company. I worked from my home in Canada. I was hired for a specific job, paid by the hour.

(1) Confirm: income is Canada-sourced because I did it from Canada?

(2) Is this contract work considered self-employment? I have do not have a business.

(3) I will deduct appropriate portions of expenses for my home office, computer stuff that I bought to do this work. To get these deductions, do I need employer to fill out T2200?

(4) If this is not self-employment, then how do I pay the CPP that I need to pay on this income?

(4) Slightly different issue: Can I deduct job-search expenses in Canada?

Thank you!

The self-employent income is Cdn-sourced.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
