I am a US citizen who did some consulting work in Canada. I used to drive from the US to Canada for 2-3 days at a time (did this a total of 4 times) and stayed at a hotel while in Canada. On my Schedule C can I claim the mileage, hotel expenses and other expenses incurred (food, etc)? I have not saved the receipts for all expenses but was told that there are approved per-diem rates for cities (including foreign cities) that can be used for such calculations. Where does one get this information? I earned a total of about $25,000 for my consulting. The agency that I consulted in Canada for did not give me a 1099 equivalent.
Also, I am liable for any tax payments in Canada, right?
