I-9 and TD visa

I-9 and TD visa

I completed higher education in US and am a canadian citizen on dependent TD visa. I have SSN from F visa but I donot use it since on dependent visa.

I have been interviewed and selected for a TN category job. My employer has sent me new hire package which contains I-9 form.

I thought I need to get TN status from border before I can fill out I-9 form.

Can somebody clarify?

Yes, you need TN first.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
