US citizen living in Canada, working in US

Post by binsky »

Hi,

I am contemplating asking my partner to move in with me. He and I both live in the Niagara area, he on the US side and I on the Canadian side. We are citizens of our respective countries.

He can live with me and cross the border every day without much trouble, it's about the same amount of time as his regular commute.

Is there legislation precluding an American from living in another country while working in the US?

I do not want to have to get married to solve the problem (call me old fashioned) and I do not wish to move to the US.

No, but there is Cdn legistaion preventing this. Foreigners cannot live in canada without status.

You or a Cdn employer would need to sponsor him to live in Canada.
