Renewing Canadian work permit

Post by Zebulah »

I am an American who has been working in Canada with a (skilled worker) work permit for three years. Each year my visa got renewed for one year. My company is planning to renew my work permit again this year when it expires in early July. I have some questions about this:

1) Is it just as easy to get a three-year visa instead of a one-year visa? Is the price about the same?

2) I am planning on taking a vacation in Europe, and returning two days before my work permit expires. Once I am back in Canada, I will pick up my renewal papers, and drive to the US/Canada border to renew the work permit. My question is: will I have any problems at the Canadian airport if I arrive two days before my work permit is set to expire?

Thanks so much for your help,

I don't see any problem with this even if your visa expire before you arrive at Canada as the airport officials have all the data about you and your work at Canada.
