My wife heard that passports are needed and I am quite sure she's referring to the 2008 law. Currently, for this year, a US born daughter to Canadian parents will need nothing but her birth certificate to enter Canada and then the US on the way back from vacation, correct?
I'll be damned if I'm paying $150 for an expedited one, which is why I ask Thanks and I hope all are having a great year.
Quick confirm that US daughter does not need CAN Passport?

That is correct.
in any event, it would only be upon re-entry into US that she would eventually need a passport (so far scheduled for 2008 by land).
Note, though, that AIRLINES might already require photo-ID of your child, which PP would do nicely. This would be airline policy, not US/Cdn law.
