I have two concerns

Post by Bisso »

Two concerns:
The first one is with regard of what Nelsona said
about not leaving money in the USA if you no longer
live there. Two years ago I left the States, but did
not close my account with an American investment firm.
My broker never told me I should close my account
prior to leaving the States or soon after that. Am I
breaking the law by not doing so? I was thinking of
using this money as an addition to the minimum amount
required, hoping to proof that I have more than
sufficient amount of money to support myself.

The second concern is of a health nature. Three years
ago I had a work related injury and I needed a back
surgery – spinal fusion. The surgery was a total
success and it is very unlikely that I will have a
problem in the future. I should also mention that any
future expenses (if needed) will be covered by my
insurance company for life, since I left the case open
and refused to receive the lump sum I was offered. I
can proof this with a court’s order. Will this health
issue prevent me from obtaining PR status in Canada?
Any help will be gladly appreciated!

I do not recall ever saying this. I no doubt meant that one should not have an INVESTMENT ACCOUNT in US when not living in US, as trading in it contravenes securities regulations in both US and canada.

But, in terms of proving financial reliablity, it doesn't matter where the money is, so there is no advantage betweeen keeping it in canada over US, or vice versa.

Nelsona, sorry if I’ve misquoted you and thanks for the response! What’s your opinion on my second question?
