Canadian Family Returning to Canada from USA

Post by Pamela »

We have lived in Atlanta for three years on H1 and are now preparing to move to Vancouver. Our moving company has informed us that we must meet the tractor-trailer at the US border to export our stuff. We did not have to do this on the way down. Is this a real rule? Where can I find out more about it?

This is a Customs issue not an Immigration one, and may be better posed on the Tax/Accounting Forum.

If all else fails, you can try calling Canada Customs at 1 (204) 983-3500 or 1 (506) 636-5064 and then press 0 in the hope that you can speak to a human being. Perhaps they can tell you if this is a government requirement or simply one imposed by your moving company.

Thanks Ron. I phoned the number you gave me, and talked to a most helpful Canada Customs person. Didn't like the answers or info - but now I know what is what.
