Filing Deadline vs. Payment Deadline

Post by trm »

Is the "filing deadline and payment deadline" the same date?

I have read the US Tax Guide for Aliens (pub. 519) and it states, If you are not an employee who receives wages subject to U.S. income tax withholding, you must file by the 15th day of the 6th month after your tax year ends. For the 2014 calendar year, file your return by June 15, 2015"

Does this refer to taxes owed or just the actual tax return itself? i.e. If you do file in June 15th and owe taxes are they going to start interest charges as of Apr 15th ?

If ypu are in US you need to PAY by april 15. You can file by October 15th.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
