Canadian student in USA on grant

Post by Solis »

Hi there

So I'm in a little bit of an unusual situation... I am a Canadian student in the USA on an F-1 visa and as a condition of my acceptance my entire tuition is being covered via a grant, plus I am being paid a stipend. I am reporting my W-2 income and net taxes paid on my return (Along with my T4 from earlier in the year), but I am not sure how to report my tuition and grant income. I am technically a full time student but I am only paying a few small fees (about $1200/yr). How do I report this? Can I avoid being taxed on the grant since it's money that goes straight to post-secondary education?
