NR6 - Rental Estimate (Full yr or after becoming non-res?)

Post by dazealex »

Hello all,

I am trying to fill out an NR6 form. My very first one.

On the form, I need to specify the rental income, expenses, etc. This is all fine. But I am wondering, do I need to include the amounts from the period I became a non-resident or for the whole year?

Please advise!

Thanks.

Since you are filling out NR6 for 2015, it will be for the full year. Don't bother filling out for 2014, since they will not give you an answer until late in the year.

For the year of the move it doesn't really matter, you will be dividing the expenses over your departure return and your 216 return (remember NR6 is just an estimate, you still need to file 216 every year).

Your NR6 for 2015 is the important one.

Hi nelsona,

When must I file the NR6 for 2015 (I know it is due before Jan 1), so that I get the approval in time? Say, November 2014?

Thanks,

I would be filing as soon as possible. As soon as you know what the rent will be for January.
