T1135 and savings bonds

Post by cat »

I have to file the T1135 because of a foreign bank account I have over $100K.

If someone purchases a US savings bond for me as a gift and the bond has not been redeemed. Will it be reportable on the T1135 in the year it is purchased or only when it is redeemed?

T1135 is for reporting the existence of accounts, not for income.
Savings Bond interst must be reported every year in Canada.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
