Canadian Citizen, Separated from non-resident (American)

Post by Hithalynn »

Getting mixed answers about filing taxes in Canada. I was married to an American Citizen until February 4, 2013 and we both resided in the USA. I moved back to Canada on this date and we separated. He has never lived or worked in Canada. I am filing my taxes in Canada for February 4-Dec 31, 2013 and I am unsure how to file for marital status.

Do I file separated, single or divorced?

If his income was outside of Canada, do I include this in Net Income if filing as separated or divorced? We have no children or shared assets.

He has no SIN and I have never filed married in Canada.

Either separated or divorced. which is it ?
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
