This is our main tax information forum which deals with topics concerning Canadians living and working in the U.S., U.S. citizens contemplating working in Canada, and all aspects of Canadian and U.S. income tax and related adminstrative issues.
I'm a Canadian citizen working in the US under TN. I think that for 2013, I am a tax resident in the US and not in Canada.
I did not make income in Canada for 2013, I did in the US. My questions:
1. Should I submit a NR73 (since I'm only under TN and my stay in the US is supposed to be "temporary")
2. Do I need to file a Canadian tax return for 2013? Do I need to report US income on it somehow? Or should I only file a US tax return?
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
You need to file a departure return, on which you declare what day you left canada. This determines whet income you need to report, what exit tax you need to pay, and fixes the date you became non-resident for Cdn tax purposes.
