SSN question relating to tax

Post by Taxpoor »

Following relinquishent of US Citizenship, does the individuals SSN number remain active, or valid for tax purposes.

In other words, is an SSN ever `revoked`once you have ceased being a us citizen (person)

The SSN is yours forever.

After all, even a relinquisher will still collect Social security, if otherwise eligible, and will still ahve to pay US tax on any US source income they recieve in future.

... and there is no choice in this. You cannot ask for a new SSN simply becuase you relinquished.
