Canadian Non-Resident - Need to keep filing?

Post by rogerme »

Hello,

Once you leave Canada permanently, file the NR73 and report your departure date in the T1, do you still need to file the T1 for non-resident form in future years?

A person at HR block told me that I do not need to file any forms in future years until I come back to Canada and become a resident again, and that I will not lose the tuition tax credits or RRSP contribution room I currently have. Because I am very worried about losing the tuition tax credits (schedule 11) and unused RRSP (schedule 7), I want to double check with the experts here to ensure that I will not lose those credits during my non-resident years if I don't file a T1 nonresident.

Thanks!
