Moving to US, deducting expenses from selling the house

Post by mehran »

I moved to US in 2012 and sold my house before I move. I am filing my Canada tax and declaring departure.
Can I deduct expenses related to selling my house?

No. On what basis did you think you could?

As a moving expense?

How about for my US tax return?, Can I include it in my moving expense if I go with itemized deduction?

You cannot claim a moving expense on your Cdn return for leaving Canada. Period.

Expenses related to the buying or selling of home are not eligible moving expenses in US.

Your employer may reimburse these, but then they become taxable reimbursements.
