does the spouse need to file 8891 form for my RRSP?

Post by newbie12345 »

Hi Nelsona,

I have some question about 8891 form for RRSP. Do you mind to give some help?

I have RRSP plan for myself: a regular RRSP plan under my name (not spouse RRSP plan).

I put my husband's name as "beneficiary" of the RRSP plan: if I die, he could take my money in the RRSP plan over.

I have filed 8891 for this plan put my self as "beneficiary" since i am the one who bought it.
Also, I filed FBAR for this account under my name

Does my husband need to file an other 8891 form for the same plan as "annuitant"?
or any FBAR form for the same plan?

Or he just need to file it only after my death?

Thanks in advance for any information!

It is your rrsp only.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

Thanks a lot!

Just to confirm:

One 8891 form under my name and one FBAR report under my name for this account is enough.

Also, under the RRSP saving plan (RRSP plan number XXXX), there used to be just one account called daily interest saving account(account number yyyy), this year, because I put the money of yyyy into a lock in GIC(number zzzz).

In the past year, I just report on the 8891 form:
xxxx - yyyy

Now do I need to file two 8891 forms like:
1 xxxx - yyyy
2. xxxx -zzzz

Or just report the RRSP plan number like
8891 form: xxxx

Also, for FBAR, do I need to report
xxxx-yyyy and xxxx-zzzz
or just
xxxx

Thanks a lot in advance for all the information and great help!

I would report the root account name/number only.
