I'm moving to the US in September with a TN visa. I want to be considered a deemed non-resident for tax purposes so I file an exit return for 2012 in Canada and a resident return in the US. Do I need to meet the 183-day requirement for this? I haven't calculated it to the day, but it should be close. Do I need to provide proof of this?
Thanks.
deemed non-resident with TN visa - 183 days?

the 183 days has no bearing on departure: you leave, you are non-resident. period.
How you file in US is a differmnt matter, and you will have several choices the first year (I have propouneded on this sufficiently, so happy browsing).
But for Cdn purposes, you will have left in September.

After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
