declare canadian income on US taxes?

Post by veejayus »

I became a US resident based on the substantial presence test, on April 1 2011 and earned income in the US from April 1 to December 31. Do I need to declare my Canadian income that was earned January 1 - March 31, 2011?

Yes, if you want to file a full year 1040 with a favourable treatment. You would exempt the wages by form 2555
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
