Getting 1098-T from Canadian University

Post by mdavison »

My wife - an American - went to SFU in Burnaby for the last few years. We moved to the US a few months ago, and are now doing back US taxes for her. We'd like to claim education tax credits, but are having difficulty finding anyone who has a clue about the form 1098-T at SFU. Should we fill out our 8863 without a 1098-T, or should we keep trying to get the 1098-T from the school? If so, any recommendations on how to get them to do it? We could just send them a W-9, along with instructions to do the 1098-T, but I'm kind of skeptical at this point.

you need to try get those forms. the schools are used to dealing with US students, your wife probably never told them she was american. The registrar or accounts will know about this.
