Change of account numbers for RRSP/RESP

Post by areefer »

Hi,

Last year, I transferred my RRSP and RESP accounts to different account types with the same bank - straight transfer of assets, no distributions. The only thing that changed were the account numbers.

I've previously filed the 8891, 90.22-1, and 3520/3520A forms.

My questions are:

1) For the 8891, as I understand that I should submit two 8891 forms. One with the old account number with a year end balance of 0, and the second with the new account number and current balance. Correct?

2) For the 90.22-1 and 3520/3520A forms, do I need to submit two form as well (for the old and new account numbers)?

3) For the 3520, do I need to request a new EIN or can I reuse the previous EIN?

Thanks.

So to confirm, both of the 3520 forms will have the same EIN? The only difference between the forms will be account numbers?

Thanks.

I have a similar question. Preparing late FBARS and 3520 for streamlined compliance.

In 2010, the bank assigned a new account number to my RESP. It wasn't even a transfer of funds--just a new number. How should I report that?

Same situation. same answer.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

So for the FBAR, I file two copies of the same thing with just the number changed, or list them as separate accounts on one FBAR?

obviously not 2 forms, two accounts on the same form.

I didn;t write the original answer.
