BONA FIDE RESIDENT REQUIRMENTS

Post by cat »

I received a e-newsletter from another expat tax return website and they stated the following: BONA FIDE RESIDENT REQUIRMENTS: may be more to your liking, if you have lived off shore from January 1 thru December 31 and have no real intention of moving back to the US any time soon. It requires that you own no property in the States. The bonus is that there is no 330 day rule and you can travel back and forth pretty much without limitation.

I thought you could own property in the U.S., as long as your primary residence is in another country. Is their statement inaccurate?

Owning propert in US is neither a requirement or an obstacle to Bona fide resident status.

What other fluff are they spewing.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
