Roth Backdoor with RRSP's

Post by niloch »

Hello,

I moved down to the US about 2 years ago, since then I've been maxing out my 401k (mix IRA/ROTH). I'm now looking at other tax advantaged vehicles for additional savings. Since my income is over the limits of a traditional ROTH IRA I'm considering doing the IRA to ROTH backdoor Conversion. http://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Backdoor_Roth_IRA

From what I've read this is pretty simple since I don't have an pre-existing IRA's. My question is, would my Canadian RRSP's factor into this equation on the conversion and be considered taxable?

Or am I in an ideal situation where I can do the 5k->Roth on an annual basis since I don't have any pre-existing IRA's?

RRSPs have no bearing on IRA.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
