Filing Section 217

Post by toad »

Hi,

Doing wife's taxes. She had EI, business (loss) and RRSP/NR4 income in Canada. No USA income but she is USA resident. I plan to lump income into general income on 1040 and use canadian taxes as credit. Is this allowed considering the income from RRSP is essentially zero in USA? (no growth since moving)

Thanks

Clarification: I've seen previous posts discussing putting RRSP income into General category vs. Passive. But after reading Form 1116 instructions it seems clear that the Lump Sum Distrubutions (e) is the correct fit. How is it possible to put RRSP income in the General category?

Thanks
