canadian permanent resident in us filing 1040 with canadiane

Post by bdmarbach »

I am a permanent resident retired from the canadian military living in oklahoma. I will receive a T4NR and tax has been withheld at source (in Ottawa). I also receive a VA disability that is not taxed at all. What line on 1040 do I include world income and is the T4NR equivalent to W2 in this case?

your T4 income is no doubt pension income: line 16, entire amount before tax. You will then have form 1116 to claim the Cdn tax.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

The CRA website tells me that if I think the source (CF Superannuation) withheld more tax than they should have, and I think I am eligible for a return, I should file Canadian tax.
I think that as a permanent resident I'm required to file US tax.
I've received my NR4 and would like to complete my tax-filing. I'm not sure if there is a preparer in Broken Arrow OK that understands the treaty (I may be wrong).
How should I go about it?
It is a simple return (aside from the international aspect) with education, alimony, and charitable deductions.
