Canadian tax obligation for part year resident

Post by bikroy »

I have lived in the US for whole 2023 but my wife and child were in Canada till May 11th 2023. We have severed most of the ties with Canada like residence , closing accounts by May 2023. We will be filing 1040 here in the USA for 2023. However, I am not sure how do I file tax return for Canada for 2023. Should I prorate my earning that would be shown in our form 1040 of 2023 for Jan 1st – May 11th ? Last time for 2022 I filed Form T2209 which allowed me to get the tax credit that I paid in the USA. I had to submit my 1040NR and W-2s at that time to CRA. However, this time for 2023 it should be for only Jan 1st – May 11th . I would appreciate if someone gives me some guidance in this regard.
