Filing W-8BEN and 1040 NR

Post by sh53lee »

Hi,

Just a bit of my background: I have just moved to US for a new job. For 2022 tax filing, I am planning on submitting 1040NR.
I have opened up a chequing account with TD America and they require me to complete W-8BEN Form.

If I submit W-8BEN, will it cause any trouble or conflicts of interest later I file 1040 NR?

Or are these two forms mutually exclusive?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Since you live in US, you will be a US person (the bank doesn't know -- in fact not do you not know at this point -- how you will file your taxes), but you ARE living in US, so a W-9 is what you should file with the bank. They simply want your SSN/ITIN on record.

It will not impact how you choose to file your taxes this year.
