2021 1040NR filing - any abnormal delays?

Post by spocket »

Is there any abnormal processing delays to process 1040NR income taxes from 2021 filed in 2022?
I mailed my filing at end of January as usual, to the Austin, TX location.
I've always had my refund by march.

I still have nothing, and further yet I asked for a "tax account transcript" as of May it says ""Return not present for this account".

I am wondering if my return got lost in the mail (never happened in 21 yrs), or if there is just abnormal delays.
I mailed the Michigan one at the same time and got my refund in February.

I guess I should have had some kind of tracking on the mailing but didn't. Live and learn.

Thanks for any feedback!

Timely filed 2020 1040NR and requested transcript. Received refund check in November 2020 with no transcript.

In my case, I also had to apply for an ITIN so this would have likely been a reason for the delay.

Quick update...
As of August, I am still waiting for my paper-filed 1040NR and refund to be processed. Mailed in 3rd week of January.
So at 6 months so far.
Just posting in case someone else also wonders, or in case someone else in similar situation had movement to report.

All paper returns are having severe delays and are even being lost.

"lost" ?
I guess this is one of my motivation for posting this update, to see if I am in an abnormal situation.
Not reassuring to hear that though.. should I send a second time (with a note as such) to be on the safe side?

Weird.. I was more expecting such delays in 2020 and/or 2021 but not in 2022 (in respect to Covid impacts)

Lost> Yes.
People are getting notices saying, we know you sent your return in in a timely manner, but we can't find it. Please resend a copy.
