Filling for NR6

Post by arwen_8199 »

Hi,
I have been trying to figure out when does he NR6 needs to be filed by, In the instructions it says "File this form on OR before the first day of each tax year, or when the first rental is due". I am expected to leave Canada the first week of April 22' but the rent is due April 15th 22', should I be filling the NR6 before April 15th? or would it be ok to filed it by the end of the year 2022?

Also, i was reading some other NR6 related threads, and I am confused. I thought the NR6 is filled one time only? and the details for the yearly taxable income are filled in section 216. Is that correct?

Thanks,
nelsona

You don't *have to* file NR6, but it is to reduce your withholding, so the earlier you file the better. You can't reduce withholding until you have the approved one for that year.

The final tax determination will be done on your 216, as you said. Any overwithholding will be refunded then.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
