Do US Stimulus payments reduce FTC in Canada

Post by rafa02 »

Apparently the US stimulus payments are not taxable in Canada; however they are defined as a refundable tax credit, and would this credit reduce or eliminate a Foreign Tax Credit in Canada?

No. As with the past stimulus they are considered a payment against your taxes, this not lowering your tax per se.

Not the same as the child tax credit which does lower your US tax.

Subtle difference, but accepted by CRA in the past.

In actaulity, if your stimulus was paid to yu properly, it doesn;t evne appear on your 1040. But even if it did (ie. they were not able to find you to pay you directly) it does not reduce your federal tax on the return.
