Canadian working in US w/G4 visa: renting house in Canada

Post by boygallego »

I am planning to accept a 3 year contract to work for an international organization that will bring me to the US under a G4 visa which confers the primary holder exemption from US taxes.
Questions:
1. Are there any tax implications stemming From the number of years (3 vs 5) that I remain in the US under the stated arrangement?
2. We would like to rent our house in Canada instead of selling. Is this advisable tax-wise?
3. as non resident in Canada during the duration of said contract, are there any taxes I should pay to CRA?

Very grateful in advance for your kind advise.

You will NOT become non-resident of canada, unless you are one already.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

This addresses part of question #3 but does not help with the second part of the question (what taxes are payable to CRA while working in the US under a G4 visa?) or questions 1 and 2 in the same entry. Thanks for your advice.

Oh, I didn't realize this site required answers in a specific form and order.

You need to contact CRA to see if this is a "prescribed international organization". If it is, you will be able to deduct wages, if not you will include them on your return and pay tax.
