Dual status or resident

Post by paulto »

I moved to USA from Canada on May 23, 2010 on TN. For 2010, I lived more than 183 days and passed substantial presence test.
Can I file as dual status or must file as resident?

You can file a dual, but it is almost always better to file full-year 1040 using 2555 to exclude any Cdn wages, and 1116 on anything else form canada.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
