I found the 8891 is available from 2004. But if I want to make amendment and elect 2003 as my first year, may I use 8891 of 2004? Or I must follow the instruction as below? Very confused. Hope you help. Thanks!
an individual who timely filed his or her United States federal income tax return for the 2002 taxable year without making the election described in section 4 of Revenue Procedure 2002-23 with respect to an RRSP or RRIF, and who would like to make the election for the 2002 taxable year, may make the election by filing an amended 2002 federal income tax return by the date that is 6 months after the due date of the return, excluding extensions, and attaching to the amended return the statement described in section 4.01 of Revenue Procedure 2002-23. The individual must provide the following statement at the top of the amended return: “FILED PURSUANT TO SECTION 301.9100-2.â€
There was no 2003 for 8891. You would need to file the 2003 version of the election, which was free-form.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
No. 8891 was not in existence for 2003. Rev Proc 2002-23 was, which was free-form statement.
