Permanent Resident in Canada paying child support in US

Post by jenny-ifer »

My spouse has lived and worked in Canada for the last 4 years. He pays child support for a child residing in the US. Are there any tax deductions he can utilize given his situation? It hardly seems fair that 39% of his net income goes to child support yet he can't deduct child support on his return nor can he claim a credit for a dependent.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
