wow, I dont really know where to start.
I am an US citizen, married with wife US citizen, 2 US citizen kids.
i moved to Canada in 2002, bought house. I moved back to Seattle in 2005, wife and kids still in Canada. my job had a temp position back in Canada 11/2006 to 9/2009. I also worked in US at the same time (internations co, part of salary was paid by US branch). filed both Canada and US taxes every year. in 2006 I filled out a NR74, which RevCan accepted when I left Canada. I refiled a NR74 in Jan 2011 as I have been back in US since 9/2009 and have no intention of going back to Canada. Wife and kids still there, house hasnt sold, waiting for end of school year and we are separated. Rev Can today said I need to fill out NR73 and fax to them verifying that I left for good 1/2005. What are the chances that they will accept my situation? Thank you - amazed to find this site!

Probably OK. You should have rwalized 9a) that there was no need to send in anything other than a departure tax return back then and more imprtantly -- the form you use for determining DEPARTURE from Canada is always NR73 not NR74.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
just called my Canada Revnue person, and asked where the decision stood, she asked for my SIN number and then said the letter was mailed 6 days ago. I asked her if she could tell me the decision, she said no, but I could reapply if I disagreed with the decision by filling out another NR73 which would then go to another agent for review, is that true? i just keep filling out the forms until I get an agent who agrees? I tried telling her that I cant invest in RRSPs, vote or use any of the Canada services because I dont live there and to top it off I will now be paying for Canada taxes with a cheaper US $.
