Form 8863 Education Credits and Full Year Resident Election

Post by wizard_ct »

Hello,

I was a F-1 student at a US college from Sep 2009 to Jun 2010, out of the country Jul 2010 to Sep 2010, then working in the US on H1B from Oct 2010 to present.

As I understand it, by treaty I can file in the US as a full year resident.

If I do so, am I eligible to claim education credits or tuition deductions?

Thanks!

Sure. As long as you report all world income for 2010.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
