H1B, Working remotely from Canada

Post by davec »

I am Canadian resident, with a offer to work for US company on H1b visa. Company is okay with me, working remotely from canada with occasional travel. I will appreciate, if any one can share their experience. I am wondering how taxation will work.

a) Is this legally possible ?
b) Do i pay double taxes in this case?
c) Can i contribute to 401K plan ?

Any pointer will be appreciated.

Since you will remain Cdn tax resident, you should be on Cdn payroll. The occasional visits to US should be done as a business visitor, not H1.

401(K) is possible for you. It will be deducted against your wages repirted on Cdn return.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
