This is our main tax information forum which deals with topics concerning Canadians living and working in the U.S., U.S. citizens contemplating working in Canada, and all aspects of Canadian and U.S. income tax and related adminstrative issues.
I am hoping someone can answer the following question. I returned to Canada couple of years ago but did not file a W8BEN with my US Brokers. In 2009 I sold some stocks and have had a capital gain.
Q1. Do I need to pay tax in the US for the Capital Gains?
Q2. If no, do I still need to fill out a 1040NR? I have had no other income in the US besides the Investment income in 2009.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
