dual status and self-employed in Canada

Post by peterpaul »

Last year I worked in the States at in Jan4-Feb28 and then Aug10-Dec18. All together I counted 189 days in US (2009).

Based on pub. 519 I assume that I have to file both 1040 and 1040NR. In 2008 I filed only 1040NR (I worked only for a short time and I had only 107 days in 2008/2007).
I have 2 W-2 for 2009, I assume I have to include them in 1040. Last year (on 1040NR) I filed exemption for my wife (she’s not working; she’s got ITIN). Can I do it the same with 1040 for 2009?

For the time I was in Canada I had 2 months of coaching (self-employed) work (April-May). I assume I have to include it in 1040NR. Is this correct?
