How valid are CRA claims on secondary ties?

Post by Nishant »

How valid are CRA claim for secondary ties to Canada such as

1) Passport- Do you have a choice of not using Canada passport till you acquire other country citizenship especially your home country citizenship is cancelled when Canada citizenship was acquired?

2) Canada bank account- For Online payments for 25 % non residential tax, you have to have a bank account from one of the top 5 Canada banks. Why is CRA encouraging online payments when it does not allow Canada bank accounts to non residents?

3) Credit cards- Now credit card companies charge foreign transaction fee which means every time you use US credit card for maintaining rental property in Canada, you lose 3 % as a foreign transaction fee. To avoid such charge is a valid reason for keeping Canada credit card

4) Canada driver license- Most US car insurance companies require residing state license if you want to buy or transfer a car with to that DMV. Once you buy a car and use state driver license, Ontario state license is redundant for all practical purposes.

5) VOIP phone- When you move your modem with you, so moves your phone. When all north american calls are free, how does it matter whether phone number is US or Canada based?
