RRSP deduction limit

Post by Livonian »

I have a simple question about RRSP amount.

My 2008 CRA assessment shows my RRSP deduction limit as amount "A". That is clear. No question about it

However the notice also says that you have amount "B" of unused RRSP contribution available for 2009. What does this mean?
Does it mean that I paid excess in earlier years equal to amount B which I can use in 2009 so less spending of money on RRSP in final goodbye year

OR

It means I underpaid amount in earlier years that so the amount B is reflected in amount A therefore B does not have much significance.

Please advise.

Unused RRSP contributions refers to contributions that you have made in the past but not deducted on any return.

It presumably means that even if you do not make a contribuution for 2009, you can take a deduction upto that amount, since didn't take it in the past.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

Nelsona- Thanks.

Is there a separate line item where this needs to be reported for prior year excess contribution to RRSP?

The guide explains this. This is not a cross-border issue.
